Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy explains how Huajin Bureau (Beijing) Holdings Co., Ltd ("we", "us", or "our") handles information in connection with the OfflineReader mobile application (the "App"). The short version: we do not collect, receive, or store any of your personal data. Everything the App does happens on your device.

1. Overview

OfflineReader is an on-device AI reading application. Text-to-speech synthesis, optical character recognition (OCR), and document parsing are all performed locally on your phone or tablet. The App has no user accounts, no analytics or advertising SDKs, and no servers operated by us.

Core principle: Zero Upload. Your documents, reading history, and listening activity never leave your device.

2. Data We Collect

We do not collect any personal data. Specifically:

No documents. The documents you import (PDF, DOCX, photos, and recognized text) are processed and stored only on your device.
No account data. The App has no registration or sign-in. We do not hold your name, email address, or any identifier.
No usage analytics. The App contains no analytics, crash-reporting, advertising, or tracking SDKs.
No precise location data. The App does not access your location.
Settings and preferences (voice choice, speed, theme, sleep timer) are stored locally on your device only.
Subscription status is determined locally by querying your app store's licensing service at runtime; the resulting state is kept on your device.

3. On-Device Processing

All AI features run entirely on your device:

Text-to-speech uses the Piper speech engine with voice models stored locally.
OCR uses tesseract.js running locally; photos you capture or select are never transmitted.
Document parsing for PDF and DOCX files happens locally; files are never uploaded.

Because processing is local, the App's core functionality works with no internet connection at all (for example, in airplane mode) once voice models are downloaded.

4. Network Access

The App makes network requests only in the following limited situations:

Voice model downloads (initiated by you). When you choose to download a voice model in the App's settings, the App downloads model files from Hugging Face (huggingface.co) or its mirror (hf-mirror.com). These requests download only; the App does not upload any of your data. Like any download, the hosting service can see your IP address as a technical necessity, but we do not receive any of this information.
App store payment and license verification. Purchases and subscription status checks are handled directly between your device and Google Play Billing (on Android) or Apple In-App Purchase (on iOS), subject to their respective privacy policies: Google Privacy Policy and Apple Privacy Policy. We receive no payment card details and no personal billing information.

The App makes no other network requests. It contains no telemetry, no analytics beacons, and no third-party advertising calls.

5. Third-Party Services

The App relies on the following third parties, only as described above:

Google Play Billing (Android) — processes purchases and subscriptions. Privacy Policy

Hugging Face — hosts the voice model files you can optionally download (including via the hf-mirror.com mirror). Privacy Policy

We do not share any data with these services, because we do not hold any data to share.

6. Data Retention and Deletion

All App data — imported documents, recognized text, voice models, exported audio, and settings — resides solely in the App's local storage on your device. Uninstalling the App deletes all of it. You can also delete individual documents and downloaded voice models from within the App at any time. We retain nothing, because nothing is ever transmitted to us.

7. Children's Privacy

The App is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone, including children. Because the App collects no data at all, no personal information from children is gathered, stored, or shared.

8. Changes to This Policy

If we change this Privacy Policy, we will post the updated version on this page and update the effective date above. If a change is material, we will also note it in the App's release notes. We encourage you to review this page periodically.
